- Then pour the marinade over the chicken pieces in a container that can be closed with a lid. Coat the chicken thoroughly. Afterwards cover the container and refrigerate the chicken pieces 24 to 48 hours. Minimum is 3 hours.
- Before the BBQ Mix the glaze. Don’t reuse the marinade. That’s not hygienic. Next step is to glaze the chicken pieces before BBQ on both sides.
- Now the honey soy chicken is ready to be grilled. Cook the pieces on the first side for 2 minutes. Flip the pieces and baste them again. Cook them on the second side for 2 minutes, then flip the pieces and baste them again every 2 minutes or so for. Total cooking time is around 8 minutes. Make sure the chicken is cooked well to avoid a food safety hazard. Most important to remember, marinating does not add moisture to the chicken. So don’t overcook it.
Notes
Chicken thighs are foolproof and don’t dry out like chicken breasts do.
For turkey lovers – use turkey pieces. They taste also spectacular.
The honey soy chicken can also be fried in a hot iron skillet. The glaze caramelised. So make sure to soak the pan in water afterwards.
