Welcome to Pop or FLOP
Ratings are necessary to better understand a sparkling wine.
I chose a simple POP or FLOP rating system. Anything I want to see again is a POP. Else it’s a FLOP. What ticks my boxes you can read find in the sparkling wine cellar.
Don’t take ratings too serious. A sparkling wine is good if it tastes no matter what rating it has received! Your taste is important but stay informed.

Grapes for vintage 2008 are from the Cote des Blancs. The vineyards are more than 40 years old and belongs to the Hostomme familiy. The Côte des Blancs is the centre for Blanc de Blanc production within the Champagne region.
M. Hostomme, Blanc de Blanc, Millésime 2008, brut was disgorged Sep 2018. It was about 120 months on the lees. Each bottle is disgorged 3 months before shipment.
On the one hand a sick yellow colour. On the other hand a fine, elegant perlage.
Very funny smell. There is brioche and yeast. However it doesn’t smell right. Something is wrong taking look and smell into consideration. The second sip doesn’t give a new picture.
Firstly it tasted like a classic aged Chardonnay. Afterwards acidity overpowers the palate.
POP or FLOP
FLOP ! Again a champagne that is not worth it’s money. The nasty aftertaste is hanging on forever on your taste buds. 2008 was a good vintage. The bottle is freshly disgorged. It should be in it’s prime.
I saw lot of good reviews. Mainly with commercial interest. I don’t have the champagne in my glass others praise. Unstable quality comes to mind. It can’t be that I pick the one bad bottle all the time.
I just read that originally it was planned to leave vintage 2008 at least 72 months on the lees. As I have said this bottle is 120 months on the lees. Maybe it went wrong there for M. Hostomme, Blanc de Blanc, Millésime 2008, brut.
It’s a very bad day in the office for Champagne. I really tried hard to find anything good in the basement. It didn’t work. For this reason Champagne is off my shopping list. Again. I will in the meantime focus on German Vintner’s Sekt and Spanish Cava.
All those champagne were opened in one day and not drinkable.
