Welcome to Pop or FLOP
Ratings are necessary to better understand a sparkling wine.
I chose a simple POP or FLOP rating system. Anything I want to see again is a POP. Else it’s a FLOP. What ticks my boxes you can read find in the sparkling wine cellar.
Don’t take ratings too serious. A sparkling wine is good if it tastes no matter what rating it has received! Your taste is important but stay informed.

Schales is a family winery. It is now in the eighth generation. Specialty of the house are sparkling wines with long maturation and fine perlage.
Schales is located in Rheinhessen. Flörsheim-Dalsheim is the record prize-winning wine village in Germany. s. Guinness Book of Records 1998. Additionally the vineyards are known for the basis of harmonious fruity wines.
The bottle has no disgorgement date. However, this will change with the new vintage 2013. The vintage 2011 was replaced in 2018. Time for some calculation skills 😉 The bottle was on the lees for about five years.
The Gelber Muskateller, 2012, is sold out at the winery.
The muscatel grape comes in many variations. There are red and white grapes. The full name of the white grape is Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains Ronds. It is characterized by small round berries.
White or yellow muscatel grapes are of the highest quality. Yellow Muscatel is an aromatic grape. It is one of the oldest and best-known varieties of white wine in the world. The grape has an intense fresh, fruity taste. Typical for it is also a not unpleasant taste of nutmeg and other spices.
Deep yellow. The perlage rises finely and steadily.
Heavenly. Firstly the sparkling wine smells of fresh grapes. Secondly fruity and unmistakably of nutmeg. A piquant and sweet combination.
The scent of fresh grapes is even intensified on the palate.
Notes of megnut, oranges, dried fruits, peach and figs. Spiciness and sweetness harmonize perfectly.
The sparkling wine is sweet without being overbearingly sticky. Full-bodied, smooth and a perfect round finish.
