Welcome to Pop or FLOP
Ratings are necessary to better understand a sparkling wine.
I chose a simple POP or FLOP rating system. Anything I want to see again is a POP. Else it’s a FLOP. What ticks my boxes you can read find in the sparkling wine cellar.
Don’t take ratings too serious. A sparkling wine is good if it tastes no matter what rating it has received! Your taste is important but stay informed.

Schales is a family winery. It is now in the eighth generation. Specialty of the house are sparkling wines with long maturation and fine perlage.
Schales is located in Rheinhessen. Flörsheim-Dalsheim is the record prize-winning wine village in Germany. s. Guinness Book of Records 1998. Additionally the vineyards are known for the basis of harmonious fruity wines.
MONT DONNERRE® is named after the former Napoleonic department Mont Tonnerre.
Pinot Noir is a demanding grape variety. Like Riesling, it ripens only in the best locations. That means in detail fertile, warm and chalky soil with a good water supply.
Pinot Noir is one of the grapes used for the production of champagne. In Germany it is called Spätburgunder was indeed the most popular grape variety in the past. During the 17th century Riesling became the most popular grape.
The Schales, Mont Donnerre, Pinot Noir Rosé, 2013, dry has a beautiful salmon pink.
Light scent of red and black fruits. Especially raspberry and red currant. In addition subtle floral notes.
Wonderful young fruit flavors despite 7 years on the lees. Beautiful maturation with a lot of potential. Tastes of raspberry as well as red currant. Light, round taste with an undeniably fine finish at the palate. Not to mention balanced sweetness and soft stomach-friendly acidity.
POP or Flop
POP. A delight.
In the last 3 years we drunk a total of 50 bottles of Schales Mont Donnerre from the 2012 and 2013 vintage. 50 bottles are still stored in our sparkling wine cellar.
All things considered I ordered today the next batch before the sparkling wine is sold out. The next vintage that’s on the lees is rather young with vintage 2018.
Important to realize is the high quality with a long storage potential.
